Cleaner climate, better transportation

CLEAN-TEA is a proposal that would direct funding from President Obama's climate initiative to transportation investments like public transportation and passenger rail, business development around transit stops, and neighborhood improvements that increase safety for cyclists and pedestrians.

And clean transportation alternatives like these do far more than just reduce emissions. These investments will create jobs, save money in the long term, provide affordable transportation options for all Americans and help keep our cities and towns livable.

Help us make sure CLEAN-TEA makes it into the climate bill this year by sending a letter to the chair of the Energy Committee, Representative Henry Waxman, today!

I am writing to support the Clean Low-Emission Affordable New Transportation Efficiency Act (CLEAN-TEA, HR 1329) and to urge you to cosponsor this important, forward-thinking legislation.

I write as a member of Transportation for America, a new, diverse coalition of more than 225 organizations throughout the country dedicated to bringing our transportation policy into the 21st century.

As Chairman of the Energy and Commerce Committee, you have the power to truly shape communities all across America. By including CLEAN-TEA in climate legislation you will not only ensure greater investment in low carbon transportation options, but will also help put us on the path to energy independence, reduce transportation costs for Americans, and create jobs to build out clean, green transportation infrastructure. 
  
Energy and climate concerns must be an important part of the imminent authorization of our federal transportation policy. However, including the transportation sector in federal climate change legislation is just as vital, as it will help ensure our climate and transportation policies operate on parallel paths. 
 
I hope you can support this important legislation. When you became Chairman of the Energy and Commerce Committee, you set a bold new precedent in the name of progressive, measurable change.
