The future of high-speed rail development in America took a serious blow recently when the Senate put only $1.2 billion in their transportation budget for high-speed rail — though the House requested $4 billion in their version of the budget.
States are eager to put people to work building clean, efficient, high-speed rail networks. The $8 billion available for high-speed rail in the stimulus garnered 45 applications from 24 states totaling approximately $50 billion. High-speed rail will connect cities’ economic centers, provide transportation alternatives, and reduce emissions and fuel consumption. Our country, to gain a big reward, will need to make a big investment in infrastructure.
Key lawmakers will meet soon to finalize the bill – help high-speed rail get rolling by urging the Senate to match the $4 billion requested by the House!
