Tell the Senate: Don’t short-change clean transportation!

The way our communities have been built leave many people with no choice but to drive increasing distances just to get around, piling up serious environmental costs. Though our transportation sector creates one third of our total greenhouse gas emissions, House climate legislation directs just one percent of funding to cleaner transportation options.

The Senate has a chance to seriously invest in green transportation – up to 10% of funding in the climate bill – but only if we act before they finalize the details of the bill.

Dear Senator: I am writing to support the Clean Low-Emission Affordable New Transportation Efficiency Act (CLEAN-TEA, S. 575) and to urge you to cosponsor this important, forward-thinking legislation. Clean transportation alternatives reduce emissions, create jobs, save money in the long term, provide affordable transportation options for all Americans and help keep our cities and towns livable. By including CLEAN-TEA in climate legislation you will not only ensure greater investment in low carbon transportation options, but will also help put us on the path to energy independence, reduce transportation costs for Americans, and create jobs to build clean, green transportation infrastructure. A third of our green house gas emissions come from transportation. The miles Americans drive, and the amount of carbon dioxide our cars produce, increase each year because of the way we’ve built our communities. If we’re serious about combating climate change, we need to be serious about green transportation, too. I hope you can support this important legislation. Sincerely,
