Tell Secretary Chao to do her job

With President Trump's signature on the 2018 appropriations bill on March 23, 2018, a clock started ticking. The U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) was tasked with distributing approximately $1.4 billion to build and expand transit systems in cities of all sizes all over the country. But USDOT has to date only awarded a tiny sliver of the funds available this year.

The full story is even worse. In addition to the $1.4 billion, USDOT has also distributed less than half of the $925 million Congress appropriated for new transit projects all the way back in May 2017. Congress has now given USDOT more than $2.3 billion over the last two years to advance these transit projects. So how much has USDOT actually awarded and which projects are still waiting to receive funding?

This administration has made it clear that they do not think transit should be a federal priority and as a result, USDOT is dragging its feet in obligating the funds. Meanwhile, local communities are left waiting on bureaucrats to put pen to paper and actually deliver the money they’ve been promised. These funding delays have very real consequences, driving up project costs and putting entire projects at risk. Customize and then send the letter below to USDOT Secretary Elaine Chao. Tell her to do her job and get this funding out the door. Communities are tired of waiting!
