Protect TIGER, transit construction & passenger rail

The current transportation budget for 2018 being considered by the House ends the TIGER competitive grant program and goes along with the President’s request to eliminate funding that supports local communities as they build new transit systems. Other amendments being considered will defund portions of or abandon our nation’s passenger rail network.

This week (9/5) the House will start debating this budget and will be considering a range of amendments that could help restore funding for these programs — or magnify the damage already proposed by the Appropriations Committee.

Send a message to your representative today and tell them: Support efforts to restore the program for investing in new transit construction, keep the merit-based, competitive TIGER program going strong, and continue to make investments in our nation’s passenger rail network.

Cuts to these programs will do damage to cities and towns of all sizes — from the biggest coastal cities down to small rural towns, and would merely pass burdens and costs down to local governments. At a time when America needs investment, we won’t enhance economic development by cutting off the very tools that local governments and the private sector are using to revitalize and redevelop downtowns and neighborhoods.
