Support the rehab actContact your member of Congress before the window closes!Dear Friend, We have an important, time-sensitive opportunity just for you. Because you live in one of just three specific House districts (IN-2, IL-18, and NY-23) you have a golden opportunity to persuade your U.S. House rep to help create a new tax incentive to encourage more affordable, walkable, smart growth in towns and cities across the country. Next Tuesday, a new bill called the REHAB Act will be released. We’re telling you about it “early” because your representative is right now considering whether or not to sign on as a co-sponsor, but they have expressly told us that they want to hear from their constituents before they decide. It’s an incredible opportunity to make a difference, but this narrow window of opportunity is quickly closing! Click here to send a quick message to your member of Congress. The demand for walkable communities is far outstripping the supply, ironically making housing hard to afford in the very places that have the most affordable transportation costs and best access to jobs and services. The REHAB Act is a brand new federal tax credit with bipartisan support designed to incentivize greater private investment and equitable revitalization for whole neighborhoods. The REHAB Act can only be used for rehabilitating assets near public transportation, which will support the revival of our nation’s downtown areas and small towns of almost any size. It will provide tax relief for making infrastructure upgrades as part of a project (sidewalks, bike lanes, a transit stop etc), provide bonuses for building more affordable housing in walkable communities, and make it easier for seniors to age in place by making more affordable and flexible housing options possible, such as accessory dwelling units. Your rep needs to hear from you now. Take 30 seconds to send them a message and help make this smart growth bill a reality. |
