Dear Friend,

It's coming up fast: now we're hearing that the Senate climate change legislation will be unveiled this Monday. You only have a few days left to contact your senators and let them know you want this bill to invest in clean transportation options!

The EPA has calculated that a comprehensive set of strategies - including high-speed rail, mass transit, and intermodal freight - can reduce U.S. oil consumption by 4 to 7 million barrels per day in 2030.

We can reduce emissions from transportation, but we'll need to make sure this climate bill invests in clean transportation to make it happen. And to do that, we need a strong, last-minute push from you, your friends, and your family to get through to your senators.

I'm forwarding my note from last week below. Please take a moment to email your senators today before the legislation comes out - then ask your friends and family to do the same!

Sincerely,

Dear Friend,

The transportation sector produces one third of U.S. emissions.

So why have a climate bill that doesn't reduce transportation emissions?

Tell your senators: put clean transportation in the climate bill!

We wanted to you to be one of the first to know what we've been hearing here in Washington: the Senate is about to unveil a new climate change and energy bill.

It's great news - but it's quite possible that this latest version won't include a real plan to reduce emissions from transportation. We need to raise our voices now, as senators are finishing their draft of the bill.

Urge your senators to invest in clean transportation options in the new climate bill.

For far too long, America has been in a transportation rut, pouring money into systems that increase our emissions and oil dependency. What's more, in too many of our communities we've failed to invest in efficient transportation options like public transportation, passenger rail, and increased safety for cyclists and pedestrians.

This is our chance to change that.

By putting significant resources behind a plan to build clean transportation options, we'll not only help meet our greenhouse gas reduction goals and reduce our dependence on oil, we'll also create thousands of new jobs, save consumers money, and make our communities better places to live, work, and play.

This climate change bill is an opportunity to make serious progress. But with transportation accounting for nearly a third of U.S. greenhouse gas emissions and 70% of our oil usage, clean transportation options must be part of the final legislation if we expect it to do the job.

Tell your senators that a comprehensive climate bill must include adequate funding for clean transportation options.

We know you care about clean transportation. Now let's work together to make sure the Senate does the right thing.

Sincerely,
